88 Accord Engine

I bought an 88 Accord today for $500. I know it is supped to have the A series engine, but the car has 397,000 miles on it, and the engine has been replaced. I had a friend of mine look at it to see if he could tell the exact engine, but he isn't completely sure just by looking at it. He says it looks like an older F series (sohc, non vtec 2.0) out of maybe the 1st gen prelude. I need to find out exactly what it is because it needs a new starter and a few other minor things.[&:]

After looking all over the engine bay, I found one code on a sticker on top of the air box. I did a few searches on google but couldn't find anything. Anyone know how to tell without a code or anything? I would take some pics, but I don't have a flashlight and it's completely dark on my street. [:@]

The code is: 36000 - PJ0 - 663 then directly under it, it says: 2.0L KAKL - KC

Any suggestions?
