'91 SI Blowing Smoke

So I just bought this car and on my way back from the seller's place I put it in a bean field. I was in 3rd gear doing about 60-65mph, swerved and spun out. I don't know if I pushed the clutch in or it was still in gear when it happened. The seller had just rebuilt the motor (the only evidence of this were receipts and I popped the oil cap and looked in with a flashlight. It looked brand new.) Now it blows smoke from the exhaust and has oil on the spark plugs but runs fine. When I give it gas, more smoke pours out of exhaust. The smoke is blue in color.

From what I've read, it's looking like the rings are shot. Input? Thanks in advance.

Do a compression check. If any of your cylinders blow lower than around 180-187, it could indicate blown rings. Squirt a little oil down inside any cylinder that tests low and test it again. If the cylinder has higher pressure during the second test, you can be almost certain the ring is shot.

Be sure to unplug your distributor wiring harness and the blue ECU fuse in the fuse box under your hood to prevent the distributor from turning and the injectors from dumping fuel into your engine when you turn it for the compression test.

Just saw you have a 91 so I don't actually know if the fuse is blue, just look for the ECU fuse.

Thanks for the reply. I will grab a compression gauge and check them. If the compression turns out to be normal, what would be some other possibilities?

I finally got around to doing a compression test. It tested 261, 265, 265, and 269. Doesn't seem to be the rings like I suspected. What should be my next step?
