I think that's the answer right there.
The CX didn't come with them I don't think, and as a result there are no holes underneath. The ones that came with them have the holes.

The CX was the low-budget model, so it's likely it never had side trim in the first place.

i can find out for sure
my friend has a 92 CX hatch, i'll check. I don't think it had side trim.
