well the check engine light does work...lights up turn you turn the key on but nothing past that. i kinda pay attention this time while it was running...seemed to be pig rich. (which leads me to belive it is out of time) maybe if the snow melts i can get to it better

OK I looked at the timing today since it was nice out today. sadly (well maybe) i think it is horribly out of time.

So I took some pics. (this is exactly where the cam gear is supposed to be right?

but no mark

and now you can see it no where near where it is supposed to be

I assume this explains my running issue

Yep, the mechanical timing is definitely OFF by a tooth or two. You need to remove the crankshaft pulley and then reinstall the timing belt so that it perfectly synchronizes the cam and crank at TDC1. At this point, the prudent next step would be to compression test all four cylinders to ensure that no valve and piston damage was done by having the mechanical timing OFF. If all is fine, take the old timing belt OFF and install a new one. While you have it all apart, also install a new timing belt tensioner and water pump.

i know how the head needs to be lines up now, but want to make sure i do the lower end right...and if i remember right getting the belt tensioner tight was a bitch

Okay, just use the"new" timing belt you already have installed. You are good to go with the other parts.

Basically, with the cam and crank in the positions shown in the photos, you would remove the belt, turn the crank gear to TDC1 (For details, go to manual link and download the 92-95 Civic service manual), reinstall the belt, and properly tension it (again see service manual for details). If something in the manual isn't clear for you, just post your questions.

The picture shows you how to position the crank gear at TDC1. By the way, how did you remove the upper timing belt cover without first removing the valve cover?
