94 civic electrical problems

I recently had my timing belt break on my 94 civic ex. I replaced it along with the water pump and had a valve job done. Car ran great then I started having battery problems. I tested the voltage at the battery and fonud the alternator wasn't charging it. I went and got a new alternator and when I went to put it on, I found that the fuel pump wasn't kicking on and the car wont shift out of park. any ideas of what could cause this? seems coincidental, also this is my first time posting so if I di it wrong let me know. thanks

Always disconnect the battery before you attempt to R&R alternator, or you're going to blow the main fuse. The big output wire on the alternator is live all the time even with the key off.

i think i have blown the "main fuse", which one is that? "Ignition 1" fuse 20, multimeter says its ok, but with key on, no voltage across termiinals. no voltage at alternator either. No interior lights, no door buzzer, nothing.
Help! Thank you !
Robin
