95 Civic - Removing Parking Brake from caliper

Hi, helping a neighbor remove the rear trailing arms on his 95 civic LX so that we can replace the bushings. Does anyone know how to remove the parking brake cable from the caliper so that we can fish it thru the hole in the trailing arm so the the whole thing can be taken off the car and the bushings replaced? I've posted a pic. The cable has a nut on one end but it just seems to turn and turn and nit loosen anything. If we remove the 2 bolts and take the metal bracket off that attaches it to the caliper, it won't fit thru the hole in the trailing arm. Any help appreciated.

Thanks

Those have a simple spring clip on the bottom side where the stationary part goes through the bracket. Remove the clip and pull the cable out. If it is rusted together you may need to replace the whole thing.

Thanks for the help.
The bracket that the cable runs through was pretty corroded. It was hard to see what was going on. We didn't realize that the cable was meant to slide THROUGH the hole on the bracket.

Here's what we did: Re-bolted the caliper onto wheel hub. Applied a little PB spray and a little heat. After a little while, we tapped it through the hole with a drift pin and hammer. We were then able to finish removing the trailing arm so that we could replace the bushing. One weekend, one side done. Now onto the passenger side.

Thanks again.
