96 2dr type r swap

i have a question i just bought this car off of a friend so i dont know to much on the motor specs yet. But would it be best for it to run lean or rich for max performance. It is naturally aspurated and it as a vtec controller. how do i tune the air to fuel mixture? i will put pics up soon
