96 Civic. Bad noise when turning

My wife's civic is making a bad noise when turning either direction. It was just to the left but today it's both ways. I haven't been in the car to hear it but she said it sounds like something wants to break off. Any ideas of what it could be? We just got an alignment a few weeks ago and the guy said that one end of the tie rod needed replaced so I was thinking that. Thanks in advance.

If its a clicking noise or clunk. Then its your c.v axles. Check those too while your at it..

My mom's Volvo S60 was doing the same thing when making sharp turns and it turned out to be the power steering system.

Its not a whine. My Jeep used to make the whine because the pump was leaking little by little so the fluid was low. She said it sounds like the tires are going to break off. I'll see today and keep you guys posted. Thanks for the suggestions so far.

power steering

im almost 100% its that. i had the same problem. turning left or right and the noise would come from the engine, but it was a low sound, but clear. i had that problem when they did an aligment on my headlights, they had to remove the power steering container and didnt put it back the right way. next morning i went to work and start hearing that "sound" only to find out that all the fluid was all over my engine. went back to the dealer and was told "unsafe to drive".
