how difficult is it to access and install a new clutch in my 96 civic DX hatch?
does the motor have to be pulled?
there seem to be some good deals on ebay for clutches..
can anybody reccommend one?

what is the avg. mileage of life of a clutch on civics?

maybe somewhere around 150,000 if you know how to use one well?

i guess it all depends on how hard you are on the clutch, my car has 149,500 miles now and it is definitely slipping.
I down shift all the time too if that has anything to do with the wear.

So, can anyone help?

not much work, you pull your axels, unbolt the transmission, then drop it. You do not need to pull the engine. I with a freind can have it done in about 3 hours total.

I see clutch kits that are offered for 149.00 or less, and i see ones that are offered for 300.00 and up.
are there any i should stay clear of?
any you would reccommend?

I see "Act", "Exedy" and some other no-names.

Stay away from "puck" style clutch's. Not that they are a bad product it just that they will not slip at all and when using stock transmission and axels you want a clutch that will give in before your transmission breaks.

Being i dont know much about clutches, and this will be my first time buying one, i notice this ones called a "race clutch".
Now though i do like to drive fast, i dont have any racing components on my civic. I think of it as my utility mini truck. heh..
So whats the difference between racing clutch as opposed to a normal one?

more clamping force and a high tq rating and yes that is the clutch I suggest unless you buy local, if you buy local you should just go to Honda and get a oe clutch

 

Ok i recieved the clutch (the exact one you reccommended) and im waiting on a friend to help me install it. I got a price quote from my from my mech at 500$ just to install it. Sounds crazy to me.
Anyway, i might go out and buy that Haynes book just in case something goes wrong.

it came with a clutch alignment tool, we have tools and my guy is very good, but what specific tools do we need from your perspective?
considering you seem to have done this and we have the same model car.
