Exclamation '97 civic 5/spd, bad reverse gear?

Hi everybody!

My civic has problems shifting into reverse, it does not want to at first but it will fall in place if I rev the engine or if the wheels start moving (like rolling back the driveway or hill). Any thoughts?

Thanks,

Smalls

synrconizers are probably going out, its common on these cars since they've seen so many miles. Mine doesn't always want to go into first and reverse, but its not bad. I don't have to rev my motor or anything. I'd be careful doing that, it seems like that could make the problem worse. Try going back into neutral and making a second attempt at reverse, rather than revving. just my .02

There is no synchronizer on reverse. If it grinds when trying to shift into reverse with the car at a full stop, that means the clutch is not releasing fully. Usually this is because of low fluid level or a bad clutch master cylinder, though it can also be a mechanical problem with the clutch itself.
