97' DX very low idle
 

Ive got 97' 5 speed DX coupe that I deliver pizza with, and I've been having this wierd intermittent idle problem for probablly 6 months, it does not trigger a cel though. When I do a cold start in the morning it fires up, and it idles correctlly. When I drive for a little while and if I come to a stop in neutral, occasionally the idle will drop to 100-200rpms, car wants to stall and it makes it hard taking off from stops at times. To try and alliviate this problem I jsut tuned it up with all brand new NGK plugs, new wires, new fuel filter, new K&N air filter, oil and filter, and I checked my dis. cap and rotor, they look good and clean(replaced last year.) My weird idle problem persists, other than that the car runs as it should. Any ideas from the pros?

Have you checked the ignition timing?

There's an idle screw on the throttle body that you could turn up a little tiny bit that may help it.

Norbster has some very good suggestions. I would also add cleaning the IACV and replacing the PCV valve.

A dirty IACV can cause a low idle?!?!?!? You're blowing my mind Ron! :eek:

Note that the idle screw is a big flathead screw in the top of the throttle body. Do not adjust the little screw that stops the throttle linkage.

To adjust the idle screw warm up the engine and disconnect the IACV electrical plug. The engine should slow down and almost stall but not actually stall. Adjust the screw to achieve this. Then reconnect the IACV and a normal idle should resume.

Just an FYI mk. The idle adjustment procedure for the D16Y7 engine does not involve unplugging the IACV:

Try cleaning the throtle body before changing the idle there most likly a black slime in the intake the PCM will try to corect for that by changing the idle if you change the idle manualy the PCM may through a code for idle control
