Default 97 won't start occasionally

Hi guys,
I just got this car a few weeks ago. It's a 1997 Honda Civic LX 5 speed. This problem has only happened twice so far but I want to fix whatever is wrong before it becomes a big problem! When I go to start the car it sounds like it is going to catch but it doesn't. Both times I stop turning the key, wait a second and try it again and it starts right away. All of the power is working when this happens. Other times when I start the car it will start right away. Any ideas what can be causing this? Thanks in advance for the help!
Niki

Are you saying that occasionally the engine cranks but doesn't start? If so, was the fuel level around or below a quarter tank? Such a problem apparently is not uncommon for Civics.

+1; check the fuel gauge. under a certain amt of fuel, I will need to step on the gas pedal to start the car. it's a common observation made by others and me.
