98 Civic LX Auto - replace/repair ECM
My Honda civic LX 98 Auto broke down last week and I need to replace the computer system, what are my options?
The meineke guys say that I need to replace the computer system but it will cost me around $800 for a new one + labour. I called the salvage yard and they have asked me to come and match the numbers and take it. I have never been to a salvage yard so do not know what it means when they say I have to match the number and remove it myself. Do I have to take my own mechanic there? I'll appreciate any help.

2 things come to mind.
1. Are you absolutely sure that you need a new computer? I don't normally consider Meineke mechanics to know much about these things. How did he know that it was the computer? I'd get another opinion, preferrably from someone who deals with hondas a lot. Also, what were your symptoms. Does it not start? Does it not stay running?
2. At a junkyard, they want you to make sure that you are replacing the exact same computer (which is why they say you have to check the numbers). And by the way, they will not remove the computer for you, it is a DIY job. So you need to bring the tools and take it out of the junk car. I did this for my combination switch for the wiper. So unless you know where and how to disconnect the computer from the car, you need to find a buddy who can.

Nearly always, the problem is not the computer itself but another part. You need a proper diagnosis first. So describe what is your car doing, and we'll help you diagnose it.

1996 honda civic lx same ecu as post
having a issue outta my honda civic 130k new plug wires new plugs gas is going fuel injectors run constant when the car wont start the main relay clicks and clicks when it wont start. speedmo goes nuts sitting in just ingionion 2 like 40-100 ect rpm goes nuts when car finnaly starts like 1/10000 times checked all fuses like 3 where blown a 20amp a 15 and a 7.5 replaced never blew again but for some reason the car just wont start it cranks and cranks maybe starts but dies tach doesn't even get a chance to get to idleing rpms before it dies. pretty much thinking ecu is bad inless it could be a ground somewhere causes a no start or intermediate starts 1/10000 chance seriously. any ideas? also OBO2 says linking erorr got it to read one or two times and it says o2 sensor bank 1 sensor 2 nothing else but cant connect to car??
