Mechanical Problems & Technical ChatIf you've got a problem you just can't figure out, a noise you can't diagnose, or a check engine light that won't go away, ask about it here!
Hi, I'm new to the forum, and I've got a 1998 Civic LX sedan that needs a new engine. I've maintained my car very well over the years but haven't done much with mods or upgrades. It's pretty much stock. According to my VIN, it has 1.6L FI SOHC 097 CID. Is that a d16y7? How easy would that be to swap with a d16y8? Is that even possible, since d16y8 is VTEC and d16y7 isn't? What else would need to be replaced (ECU, etc).
Are there any other engines (with more power) that would swap into this car without any trouble? It's an automatic transmission.
Is it worth trying to swap for something more powerful or should I just get a duplicate engine? (I'm in Milwaukee, WI area, so if anyone knows of an engine, let me know!)
Thanks for helpful comments. Again, I'm a newbie, so if I've said something ignorant, forgive me and educate me!
