98 Heater Blower Motor
It seems that my son's Civic's heater blower motor is making bad noises; likely will need to be replaced. A check of the service manual suggests that, since this car has A/C, the A/C evaporater needs to be removed to access the blower motor. Is this really true or is there some undocumented trick that gets around that?
Thanks in advance folks! |
That is not true. The motor can be removed without taking anything else apart. Unplug the wire, remove 3 screws around the round part, and drop it out the bottom.

^^ exactly what MK378 said. It is very easy to access the blower motor in these vehicles. The noise you are hearing is probably a bearing gone bad. My bros 98 civic did the same thing shortly after he purchased it about a year ago. He replaced the motor for like $30 from a junk yard and everything has been fine since.

Cool! Thanks much!

keep us posted when you do the repair.

Would this be an easy fix? Since there are no tricks involve I guess all you need to have is the right tools to remove the blower.

it looks that way. I've never done it, but if what mk describes is all it takes, that's a pretty fast repair.

I think chipfried is just a spammer-- 2 posts and a handy link to some sort of "parts store" in his signature.
