AC Compressor bracket bolts! HELP!!!
Hi all,
I was going to change the belts in my 98 civic 2 dr EX last weekend. I tried to take the AC compressor bracket bolts out (The ones that hold the U bracket with rubber in it). They were very rusty. Unfortunately, the nuts that are inside the chassis popped. I can't see them, I can't reach them. I can't take out the bolts either. I will try to cut the bolts off (but they are really hard to reach) and weld new nuts on the chassis from outside. This will require to shorten the rubber bracket as much as the thickness of the new nuts. Anybody has any other suggestions on how to solve this problem?
Thanks

I believe that is an engine mount, not anything to do with a/c. You got yourself in quite the humdinger. Another possibilty is to cut out a small C shaped hole in the frame, so you can bend back a flap big enough to reach your fingers in there and hold the nuts while you tighten up the bolts, you can try and tack weld them in but it might be difficult, ideally it would be best to bend the flap back down and weld it back up, however the next time you take that mount off you'll have the same problem again. :S
Yeah, if you can get the old nuts out by cutting a flap (or preferably through a nearby access hole), put new ones in with star washers, lockwashers, and/or nylock. Welding could be even better if it's accessible. Use anti-seize on the newbolts when reinstalling.
