AC/HEATER AUTO controls? do they swap out?

AC/HEATER AUTO controls? do they swap out?
well one thing ive ALWAYS HATED about my civic is the AC controls.... you gota play with them all the time...
well now i look at one of these japan navigation systems... and even tho im sure that the navigation part i dont want.. BUT on the AC controls it says... AUTO.... im curious if those REALY are the automatic temp controls?
and if they are can those controls just be swaped into a US model and work properly? or would i probably need sometype of external sensor or something for it to work right?
