Another ?
so i had a trans. leak out of both sides i replaced the drivers side oil seal and it stop leaking so i tried to replace the passenger side and didn't get far i cant get the axle nut off me and 3 friends couldn't muscle it off and its almost stripped now any suggestions? and if not whats the cheapist part to break to get it off?
|
breaker bar or an impact wrench should do the trick. You say it's stripping... are you using the right size socket?
|
im using a 33mm socket for a 93 dx coupe it took off both axel nuts before just not this one im pretty sure i used a 32mm and it was too small so i had to go back and get this one but i could be wrong

You don't need to take the axle nut off to change the transmission seal....
But if you really need to some other time-- if you don't have an impact wrench, take the center cap out of the wheel and put the wheel back on, then lower the car so the tire is on the ground. Now you can really wail on it with a long lever. And the proper size socket. Use a 6 point socket to resist stripping. The nut is conventional right hand thread, turn counterclockwise to loosen. |
Soak the nut in PB Blaster for a couple of hours and then try again.

How do i replace the seal with out taking off the axle nut?
|
Take apart the lower ball joint. Pop the axle loose from the transmission. Swing the hub assembly (axle still attached) out away from the car to get space to pull the axle out of the transmission. Be careful not to stretch the brake hose. Move the axle aside and replace seal.
