arrrrrggg car wont rev past 1500-2000 rpm without bogging after cleaning fitv
Ok I just bought a nice car, I usually work on toyotas but I am beginning to like the build of hondas. I have a 97 honda civic 4 door 4 cylinder. I bought the car with an idle surge, I read a few post on how to fix it, which suggested cleaning the fitv. I took it off and took off the sensor with the 2 screws (has a plastic piece and a magnetic thing on the end which orientates the cylinder sleeve). I cleaned the cylinder sleeve with carb cleaner due to carbon build-up. I think i put everything the way it should be. I cranked the car over and it idled good. Then tried to rev it up and it bogged down like its starving for air or something, let the gas pedal go and it stays at the idle(700 rpm). I can step up the idle by tapping it going to about 2500 rpm than it boggs down anything past that. The car did just fine as far as running up the rpms before cleaning the fitv. Did I miss something?, Please help, any help would be awesome. Also the check engine light is not on.

this is the engine, guy before me put in some non-stock parts such as cold air-intake, but thought I would put this pic in to help out with the identity

The FITV won't cause that. Sudden loss of performance with no CEL suggests that the timing belt may have skipped, which can happen at any time if it's old. Make sure the CEL has a bulb in it and works when you turn the key on and don't start. Plug up the extra holes in the intake pipe-- they don't affect performance but let unfiltered air into the engine.
