ATF recommendation on 98CX
I got this car last year for my family, first for my son, and now my wife is driving. She has no complain about th car. Engine oil change is coming around soon and I am thinking of doing ATF drain-and-refill this time.
Questions are:
1) Is there aftermarket ATF I can use on this car? Or do I really need to get it from Honda?
2) I've heard there are Honda ATF z1 and DW-1. Which is for 98CX?
3) How many quarts would I need for one Drain-and-refill?
Thank you for your help in advance.

For transmission fluid, I stick with Honda no matter what.
Not sure how much though since i have never played with AT's that much. Do you have a Haynes Manual? If not, I bet the dealer can tell you how much you need.

Have a Haynes for earlier model Civic but not for 98. Even for earlier model Haynes, I don't know if it lists quantity for drain and refill.
z1 and DW-1 are Honda ATF, one for earlier model? And the other for later model. I think.
I don't know which one is for 98.
Also I hear that z1 ATF is not available any more. I guess calling the dealer is the best thing to do....

About 3 quarts to drain and refill I think. If the fluid looks old and dirty, drain and refill multiple times (drive a few miles to mix the fluid up, then drain and refill again). Do not undergo a garage "flushing" procedure unless you're absolutely sure they're using Honda fluid.

I wouldn't go to a shop unless I need to. I hear that power flush in not good that it may dislodge deposits which may clog passage on the transmission. So, doing that is out of question for me.
So, DW-1 is synthetic available from Honda, I assume.
