Bleeding IACV

Question Bleeding IACV

I installed a brand new IACV and my car idle is still surging between 1K-2K rpms when my car is warm and im stopped at a stop light, when I lightly give it gas it sputters terribly until I just floor the gas. I read that the IACV needs to be bleeded when install otherwise it will not work properly. My question is how do you bleed it, obviously its not working properly.

you can't bleed an IACV... at least i'm 99% sure.

You have to bleed the coolant system though, because when you disconnected the hoses you let air into the system.

Right, you don't bleed an IACV specifically, but any time you open up the cooling system you need to bleed all the air out and make sure it is completely refilled. Do this with the engine COLD. Take the radiator cap off and fill the radiator completely. If you have a bleed screw on the fitting on the engine that goes to the upper radiator hose, open it until coolant not air comes out. Then top off the radiator. Later models have no bleeder screw; on those start the engine with the cap off and add more coolant if needed.

You have another problem as it won't accelerate properly, that would have nothing to do with the IACV or bleeding the cooling systme.

Bleeded? Bled? Ahh...WTF.

It sounds like you might need a tuneup. I'd start by cleaning the fuel system with a good cleaner, then checking the plugs and wires.

Not that it wouldn't help to do what you mentioned, but if he took the IACV off (which would let air into the cooling system), then the place to start is definitely to bleed the cooling system.
