Blue coolant?

My coolant has been just a hair shy of the "min" line for the past year, figured I'd top it off today. Opened the cap, but the coolant is a very very light blue?!?!!! huh? When I first bought the car last year, I had Honda do the whole timing belt thing, and had them do the radiator flush too.

I have heard that Europeans use a blue coolant?? But I dont know why that would be in my Honda...

Oil contamination? Thing is, every time I change my oil it is a nice light brown every 3K - pretty good for a car w/ almost 250K on it. Dont see any coolant in the oil. I do not have any visible leaks, the car has absolutely no problems with overheating, and the engine runs fine. Whats up, anybody know?

thanks

Are you sure you aren't looking at the windshield washer fluid?

RE: Blue coolant?

Yeah, I'm definitely sure its the coolant. I definitely know my way around a car better than that :) Though sometimes that is the proper question to ask so its all good.

Its a very very light blue, almost when you mix what? green and yellow makes blue right? so maybe when I added the 50/50 green good w/ any fluid stuff whatever honda put in there was a little different and it changed colors slightly...

Just to let yall know, Honda sometimes does use blue coolant. So thats whats up with the blue coolant. I guess its some sort of "phosphate free" coolant to prevent buildup.

RE: Blue coolant?

honda uses a proprietary blue coolant that's organic to keep rusting down and it has no or little particulants to block up the radiator.

I would highly recommend all of you guyz to use honda premixed coolant if you can, because it will preserve the life of your oem radiators.

my brother's 93 civic's radiator finally died last month after 400,000 miles.

sad part is, that he bought a cheaper aftermarket OEM replacement radiator and bought some non-organic prestone coolant because he was too lazy to swing by the dealership and buy oem coolant. jeezis.
