Broken studs! (two of them!)
 

Hey guys! How is everyone today?
First post here guys but man what problems I have!

A simple brake job turned into a night mare!

I've got two broken studs on my 2002 Honda Civic Sedan! Front right side! I got it all broken down to the hub today but still
couldn't get the two broken studs off. Seems I have to go some more steps further but notsure what to do next.

Should that hub just pull off if I use a puller on it or do I have to remove the
whole Knuckle assy. to get the hub off? Not sure here.

I've got the new studs right here in a bag but am stuck at this spot now!

Any help would sure be appreciated guys!

Bash them out the back with a hammer. with the caliper out of the way and the rotor off, the studs can be installed from the back. If you can't force the stud all the way back in all you have to do is find a nut that has the same threads as the stud and put it on all the way, than tighten the lugs on, this will pull the stud into it's resting area. there is no need to remove the hub, as far as i know. I've done this with a whole bunch of other vehicles and never had to remove the hub to change a stud. hope this helps!

Pictures are great but I can't bash em out because they will hit the knuckle!
It's right in the way of the back of the studs.

Hey Ron,

When I remove the damper pinch bolts and nuts is that strut assy. going to spring out on me?
I was about to do that just before but was worried the spring and srut were going to pop out
and I wouldn't be able to squeeze em back together to reinstall everything.\

Also when I loosen up that castle nut will I need all these special tools or will this stuff pretty much come free?

Man this job is becoming a real pain! LOL

No the spring will not pop on you. Leave the damper assembly attached to the car at the top. I suggest taking the knuckle assembly off of the car and taking it to a shop to have them press it apart and replace the studs. A new wheel bearing should be installed as well, it's kind of iffy to reuse them.

Oustanding! I was thinking of doing just that but was worried about that spring.

Do you think I will need any special tools to remove that knuckle assy.?
Doing this in my driveway!
