A/C Not Blowing and already replaced blower motor
 

My wife's a/c is not blowing at all. I thought it was the blower motor, but switched that out and nothing. Here is what I have so far:

Turn engine on and blower motor turns one rotation then is off.
When turn engine on and then turn A/C it sounds like there is a fan blowing from the engine somewhere, I believe driver's side...but my hearing is a little off sometimes. It sounds like the fan that comes on sometimes when the engine is trying to cool down when it is in idle. Samething happens when I just turn the key to get all electronics working, but no engine turn over.

Any help would be great, especially since I live in Houston and I believe that a little melts off me every day I ride home from work....

What year Civic?

You are hearing the A/C condenser fan, which sits next to the radiator fan.

So the problem is that the blower behind the glove box doesn't work, right? Have you checked for blown fuses?

Ronj, thanks for replying. The Civic is a 2001 EX model. I replaced the blower motor and didn't think that it was the problem since I turn the key and does a rotation. I checked the fuses and all seems well there, none are blown. Does the a/c fan only turning on for a brief time indicative of anything?

I don't think it is the blower fan, since I just bought a new one and replaced it behind the glove box on Friday.

Measure the voltage from each wire of the blower motor to ground with the key on and the switch on high. Do this with the motor and everything else plugged in. If you have 12 volts on both wires, probably it's the power transistor, or much less likely, the control panel.

You can look up more sophisticated troubleshooting procedures with the link Ron provides. But the power transistor is known to be a weak spot.

I hate to ask, but is replacing the power transistor something a semi-novice can do or is this a tech needs to handle. Also, which link:

Sometimes a little knowledge and experience can be crippling in itself. I was trying to diagnose this problem also. I got to measuring across the motor terminals to see if the motor was "open" (as in: dead). Looked like it. I also measured the resistance across pins 1 & 2 of the power transistor - also "open". Just for grins, I did the voltage check above, and got 12 volts on one side, not the other. I whacked the motor housing- and it came on.

This saves me an expense I could ill afford right now. I can postpone this repair for another paycheck or two...
