CIVIC 2005 - NEED YOUR KIND INPUT
I have changed the oil last week and after one week car broke down, I found that the oil was too low due to leakage from Oil Filter. When I took it to the service center they found that timing belt is broken and also valve go bend. They are insisting that the car broke because the timing belt was cut and I am saying its due to oil leakage. Could you kindly provide me with kind advise on this.
Thanks & regards, ift

If you drive with too little oil, the enginemay heat up. If it heats up too much, lots of bad things can happen, like a blown head gasket, but usually this takes time. If you noticed that your temperature gauge is running hotter than normal, low oil could be the reason.
If your timing belt breaks, the car will probably stop running immediately because the camshaft and crankshaft are no longer synchronized (and the engine will make an awful noise).
These are two separate problems, i.e. low oil did not cause the timing belt to break. I wouldn't disagree with your machanic, but don't be surprised if they find other problems, like a warped head. Expect a repair bill of $1,000-2,000.
