Clutch
 

I have to repair my clutch pretty quick. It slips from a start, sometimes badly. Worst was a week ago when I had a full carload of passengers and 200 LBS of tools in the trunk. It took some work (and some material off the clutch pads) to get it fully engaged.

I figured it just be a days work and $25 for the clutch disc and bearring. WRONG what was once a cheap $25 part for my willys 25 years ago is now like $120. Do I need the whole "kit"? I've never seen a honda clutch before so I don't know how complicated they are. But is the "kit" selling me things I don't really need?

You have adjusted the cable, right? If the clutch releases instantly when you first press the pedal at the top, turn the plastic nut on the clutch end of the cable to slacken it.

The kit includes a clutch disk, cover (big part with the spring in it that presses on the disk), throwout bearing, and pilot bearing. If you really want to be cheap I think you could get the disk alone for about $50.

Well I don't want to be cheap. All those things are really good ideas to follow through on. However I have a deadline to get $600 together for an unrelated problem and the Honda clutch comes at a really bad time. I'll go get the book and look into it and hope its the cable. The pedal doesn't start to disengage the clutch until about an inch of pedal travel.

You need to drop the transmission to replace the clutch, so it's best to replace it all, which is the throw out/release bearing, pressure plate, and clutch disc. In addition, you should resurface or replace the flywheel.
