First of all.. MERRY CHRISTMAS everyone! And now to my problem. My '92 civic VX clutch has been slowly losing pressure. I've adjusted the pedal out as far as it would go. That worked for awhile but now it's on the floor with no tension at all. I had checked the oil level previously but not for awhile. This time, there was no oil in the reservior. I refilled it, pumped like crazy and got a little pedal at the bottom. Tried to drive it hoping it would self bleed but ended up floating the gears all the way home, again. (Thank God I learned that driving a semi..lol) Is there a way to bleed the clutch line or is it time to replace the master cyl or slave cyl and how can you tell which one is bad? I assume it has both and where do you bleed it, if you can? Thanks in advance for any help... Dwain

 

It sounds like your master cylinder is bad. They go bad two ways: either failing to build sufficient pressure to release the clutch when the pedal is pressed, or leaking fluid to the inside of the car (it will then run down the firewall behind the carpet). Yours is probably doing both. Also check for leaks at the slave cylinder.

Like the brakes, after running out of fluid you need to bleed the system to get it working properly again. Of course when you say "oil" you really meant brake fluid, because actually putting oil in there will ruin everything.

 

Yeah, I did mean brake fluid..lol When it stops raining, I'll check for the leaking master cyl like you said. Do you happen to know where the bleeder valve is located? Is it after the slave cyl? I probably can find it, it would just be easier to know in advance. Thanks
