Code p0131?
 

gota CEL today, scanned it and got a code here:

p0131 - o2 sensor circuit low volts bank 1 sensor 1

is the sensor bad, how many o2 sensors do i have and where should this one be located?


2000 ex coupe 5-speed 87,000 miles.

Your Civic has two O2 sensors, primary (before cat) and secondary (after cat). The code is for the primary O2 sensor, which is most likely bad. It might also be a problem with the O2 sensor circuit. You can troubleshoot the problem as described in the 96-00 Civic manual found in the link in my signature.

ok, now i see they have them at www.napaonline.com for like $77 universal sensors...are these ok?

or should i get the more expensive ones?

any advice is greatly appreciated?

First clear the CEL code from the ECU by removing the 7.5A BACKUP fuse under the hood for 30 seconds. Reinsert fuse and drive the car. Don't take any action unless the CEL code for the O2 sensor returns.

Personally, I would avoid a universal O2 sensor because I think you must solder wires for installation. I would purchase a sensor with a proper connector that allows easy installation.

ok, i removed the fuse for 30 seconds and reinstalled it. now the light is off.

also, i need to reenter the code for my radio, where do i fin the code at for the radio?

Hopefully, you have the anti-theft code stored somewhere. Have you checked the glove box and your owner's manual? Otherwise, you may need to call your Honda dealer.

my car never came with the code card with the 5 digit number on it.

this code is 5 digits right? and is it only located on a card?

i dotn know the serial number for the system either, where would i find that at?

I have a 97 Civic that doesn't require a radio code so I don't have answers to your questions. Perhaps other members can help you with this problem.

ok, went to the dealer today with the serial number and the guy printed out a copy of the code # for me so that is all good.

the light has not come back on since after putting 20+ miles on car.

what may have caused it to go on in the first place and not again?

jeremy, check the back of your ash tray or a storage tray. my wife's former accord had the stereo code stored there.

it could very well be a faulty o2 sensor that is tripping your codes. 20 miles is a bit premature to declare victory over this issue. i'd give it another few weeks..
