Cold Air Intake vs. Short Ram Intake
Whats the difference between the Cold air intakes and the short ram intakes? Why would one choose one over the other? Which ones better? Pros and cons to both....
Ok, you should search, but I will be nice and elaborate for you...
A short ram is basically a metal tube with a filter on the end of it, entirely in the engine compartment... a cold air intake it the same except it mounts the filter in such a way that it is isolated from engine heat.
Cooler air = denser air = more fuel can mix with it = more potential to make more power... and the aftermarket intakes sound great too...
Personally I have an AEM short ram on mine, and I like it... I did notice a difference over stock, but not a big one, and mostly it's in the top end not down low where you need it most... and don't be expecting major gains... You do save money not having to replace filters, and I did pick up a slight amount of fuel mileage...
The best effect is the sound though in my opinion... I didn't like having a loud exhaust on my car because the noise level on long freeway trips was unbearable, I had a nice one, and it only stayed on a month, I got so tired of having a headache when I got to work, I unbolted it and put the stocker back on it... but the intake sounds really good when you nail it, but when you are just cruising it's nice and quiet...
I would say the performance difference between the two is negligable, especially if ti;s your only mod, now if you have a higly modded and tuned engine, than maybe you;d see more of a gain with the cold air... I went with the short ram for price, the cold air version is much more expensive. Oh, the other reaon not to go with the cold air is most of them put the filter where it could potentially pick up water, while that's not likely, it could happen... I don't see there being any major reason to pick the more expensive cold air over the short ram...

no man that's not how i meant it at all... I'm bored and got nothing better to do right now so I decided to elaborate... didn't want it to sound like you weren't being nice...

Another thing you can do is just take off all of the silencer parts of your stock intake and put a K&N drop-in in it, and have it for nothing more than the cost of the filter... but it is really deep bassy sounding and really loud if you do that, mine was so loud you could feel a vibration in the floor from it! IMO the Short Ram is definately the better choice...
