d16y5 to d16y8 issues, HELP?

Alrght, so heres the situation. My 96 HX threw a rod through the block. Bought me a EX motor out of a 00. Using HX harness and p28 ecu for te swap with the jumper harness. Finished the swap last night, started right up. have a check engine light and my temperaturegauge doesnt work at all. I'm gonna go check what the cel light is in a little bit. Anyone know whats up with the tempgauge? could it be the wiring in the harness, or the coolant temperature sensor? I'll probably swap out the temperature sensor too, and see what happens. Any suggestions?

Here's how to pull the CEL code(s):

http://www.honda-tech.com/zerothread/1901557

Be sure to clear the ECU and determine whether the CEL turns ON again. If so, retrieve the CEL code again and only troubleshoot a code(s) that repeats.

The ECT sending unit (one wire) located below the distributor next to the ECT sensor (two wires) controls the temperature gauge. You can test whether the temperature gauge is working by disconnecting the wire to the ECT sending unit and then grounding the wire to the engine with a jumper wire. With the ignition ON, the temperature gauge needle should move toward High. Turn ignition key OFF before it does. If the gauge works as mentioned, then the sending unit is bad.

How many miles did you have before the rod threw? What did you do that caused that? - Did you Redline it?

alright so i pulled code 41 o2 sensor. so i'm guessing when i threw the rod it went through the block and cracked the exhaust manifold. so i just installed a 421 header and got a new cat relocated after the header with a o2 bung after the cat. now i'm just waiting for a o2 wire extension. as for the ect sensor havent toyed with it yet. i'll try testing the ect in a minute.

as for throwing the rod. i had 160000 miles. it had a check engine light and the code read vtec malfunction. and causes could be oil clogged, and some other things. i had a print out from autozone when i had the check engine light read. so yea i'm pretty sure oil wasnt moving around properly and caused the bearing to seize or something like that. Nope, i wasnt redlining it. i had just barely bought the car and was cruisin on the interstate, 5th gear 80-90 mph following a van and another civic.

thanks for the help. yea i'll try testin the ect in a minute and post back up with what happens.

Code 41 (P0135) indicates a problem with heater circuit component of the primary O2 sensor. Here's how to troubleshoot:
