d16y7 head questions
will the head off a 2000 d16y7 work for a 99? I have 3 or 4 bent valves in the 99 head. Found the 2000 head for $100. Will it work?
I think these are the casting numbers........ D16Y7 P2F-HA-3 D16Y7 P2F-HA-7 |
Yes. any 96-00 y7 head will do.
I have a 2000 Civic with a block from a 98 and a head from a 96, for example. |
The 1998 to 2000 heads are all identical. The 1996 and 1997 don't have the extra air holes for the fuel injectors but can still be made to work.
|
Im confused now. Mine looked identical. There were extra air holes on the y8 intake manifold, but not on the y7 head itself.
|
What year manifold are you using? Reportedly (here) the new manifolds won't seal to the old heads.
|
I recall that the 96-98 y8 manifolds did not have those holes. The 96-00 y7 manifolds did not either. But the 99-00 y8 manifolds did have those extra holes and the extra fittings for hoses. It seemed more specific to the y8 engines than the y7.

That makes sense, thanks for clarifying.

Well back to step one... Took carb cleaner with me to check head...
Needless to say, first one I sprayed in went straight thru..... With NO cam/ rocker arms installed....... His answer, the car was running fine..... |
So how hard is it to replace a few valves? Should I just take it in and have it done?
Money is tight so if I take it in, may be a few weeks before I can get it going.... |
If you have bent valves, you will more than likely have valve guides that are out of spec. I just did my wife's Y7 head stock rebuild (head gasket) and had the head resurfaced, valves resurfaced, and valve seats re-cut. Cost ~$180 with doing dis-assembly and assembly myself (recommend Honda FSM no Haynes or whatever junk). How are you verifying the valves are bent? They may just not be seated well. I had 234k miles when I did mine and have stock compression numbers after. $100 is not bad for a useable head. I know you said money is tight, so that might be your best route. As said above any 96-00 Y7 head will work.
