D17A1 civic lx non vtec, interference or non-interference?

People seem to assume that since Honda has interference engines, that they are all interference. The dealer said my engine the D17A1 non vtec civic lx, was interference, but when pulling the head for burnt valves, said it was non-interference. He said the v6 and vtec are interference, but not mine. I have seen it listed at autoparts chain stores as interference, but they sometimes generalize in error. Is the dealer confused or wrong? How can I find a reliable source to verify interference or no? I am sure that anyone who has this enginw would like to know whether tyhey risk valve damage if the timing belt breaks prematurely.

Confused. They're interference engines. If the timing belt breaks, get a new engine.

Thanks for the reply. Can you provide a source for how you know this about the D17A1 non-vtec? I do know from other experience that not all Honda engines from all years are interference.
