Question D4 does not light up in dashboard, but all other gear indicators do

Dear fellow forum members,
I've just noticed that my dashboard's D4 (Drive 4), which is below N (Neutral) and above D3, does not light up anymore, whether or not I turn on the headlights. All the other gears light up in the dashboard.

So now, when I'm driving (which is usually in D4), I don't see any gear lit up in the dashboard. It looks like the car is turned off.

What's wrong? And how can I fix things?

My first guess would be the bulb has burnt out. So remove the cluster and check the bulbs.

mk378,
thanks for your reply.
What is the cluster?
And how do I remove it?

Today, I drove the Civic again. D4 was lighting up briefly, and then it stopped lighting up again.

Instrument cluster-- the part of the dashboard with the gauges and lights.

If it comes and goes, see if it can be made to go on/off by hitting the dash near the cluster, or by moving the shifter handle slightly. There is a switch at the base of the shifter handle that controls the lights.
