Default Don't know if this is a weird problem but I need help ( I think )

I'm the first to admit that I'm not a car guy so i'm hoping to get some help with my problem. I got in my car the other day and it was completely dead.
I popped the hood and noticed a battery cable was slightly loose so I tightened it and tried it again. Nothing. Then I noticed that there's this small red light flashing under my steering wheel. When I touched it, the light went off. For some reason, something in my brain told me to try it again and it started fine. It happened again today. What the heck is the little blinky red light and what is the significance? By the way, I bought the car new so this isn't something aftermarket that was left on there by a previous owner.

That is not stock. I'm guessing it is one of those systems installed by the dealer to disable the car if you miss a payment.

I guess I should have mentioned that it's a 97 Civic hatchback and it's been paid off for several years.

Did you have an alarm installed when you bought it?

It looks like thats the kill-switch to the alarm.

There's no alarm and I'm the original owner. The mystery deepens.....

lol.. my mom's car had it and all it does is simply safen your car from theft. You insert a key shaped figure to match those little prongs and then you start your cars ignition with the keys. How you've managed to not need it is miraculous.
