Drive axle replacement

I need to replace the right drive axle in my 91 Civic Dx/Lx (knocking noise when turning, boot deteriorated). AutoZone asks if it has a red, orange or green stripe or tag or a yellow stripe. Others ask if a 23 spline or 26 spline axle. I don't see any stripes on my axle. How can I tell which axle to buy? Or should I take the axle out first and count the splines. Also, has anyone had good luck with rebuilt axles? Any tips on axle replacement would be appreciated. I have the Haynes manual and some internet guides. Thanks.

Found out from CCT, the rebuilt axleshaft company that the red, pink or green stripe is for fuel injected and the yellow stripe is for carburated. Installed the rebuilt axle yesterday.
