Dual Carb 1989 Civic
Hi All, My 1989 dual carb (1.5l) civic is starting to give some trouble. Basically one or both of the carburettors is failing and floods the engine on initial startup. I've worked around this by disabling the auto choke - which now also makes it difficult to start - but at least I can get it going. I've been told that these carurettors cause much trouble (keihins I think) due to failing internal seals and will require a re-build (looke like a nightmare to remove!). Does anyone know where I can get a gasket/O-ring kit for these and what the problem is most likely to be?
This is an Australian delivered car so may differ from what you have in the states.

sounds like they need rebuilt, ive rebuilt many carbs, its not that hard once you get it open and you see how simple it is the clean it, and replace the worn out parts with the new kit.. also Most rebuild kits come with a diagram of every part of the carb.
once you take them off the car it shouldnt take you about 30 mins to clean them and replaces the parts worn. just use all the gaskets and replacement parts and you should be good to go.
your 89 civic with carbs is the same as our 87 civic, in 88 and up they changed to fuel injection here in the states.
ill look it up and find the rebuild kit for you. or ive found new carbs for just over $300usd each.
are you sure your carb is the Keihin carb or is it the Walker, if you can find any numbers off the carb, most of the time there is a little metal tab. and the name of the carb.

Thanks for the quick reply. It's definitely the Keihin (dual carb setup). It looks like something straight off a motorbike of the same era - but with a heap of vacuum hoses surrounding it!
If you know of anyone who makes the rebuild kit it'd be greatly appreciated.
Are you sure it's that easy to remove? It looks like a nightmare to remove the carbs from the car. I presume you leave them bolted to the intake manifold and remove the manifold and carbs together?

leave the intake manifold, just remove the 2 carbs. and also get the me numbers off the carb so i can match up the right kit for you. if your not sure, then remove 1 carb at a time and rebuild it then you will have the other carb to look at if your unsure about something.
