E brake light on
i have a 96 civic with an e-brake. For some reason my brake light is on, but i removed the tires and everything, and it doesnt seem like its grabbing at all. any ideas? just a stuck cable up front or what?

Is your brake fluid topped off?
|
just checked. its right at about min level. you think thats whats causing it?
|
It could be the cause, top it off and see if that solves the light problem. If your pads are getting worn your fluid level in the reservoir will go down, although the actual volume of fluid hasn't changed.
|
i will try that. thank you

The brake warning light will come on for 3 possible reasons.
1. The hand brake handle is not all the way down. This is controlled by a switch at the handle and not further back at the brakes. 2. The brake fluid level in the reservoir on the master cylinder is low. 3. There is a pressure imbalance in the hydraulic braking system (very rare). Causes 2 and 3 require immediate attention because they indicate conditions where the main brakes may fail without further warning. |
another early way to tell if your fluids going low is if you start to notice the brake light flash or flicker when you hit them corners. mine did that then constantly stayed on and i thought it was the e-brake too. and mine was below the level. it almost looked dry. but yeah like MK said. you run out of brake fluid, the brake could hit the floor. then you best get to downshiftin and ebrakin and dodgin traffic lol
