E-Brake Problem
 

My e-brake freezes and sticks on in the winter some nights. Usually I wont pull it up and just leave it in gear, but sometimes I forget. So how do I keep it from freeZing up?

if its sticking..... a few things you can try.

first pull off your wheels and drums off the rear and then spray down the Ebrake arm and cable with some penetrating oil or what not... just something good all over the cable and then hope in the car and pull the center arm rest off to access the cables on the Ebrake handle itself and spray those cables as well.... then work the Ebrake handle over and over.... then respray the cables and work the ebrake handle again... and repeat again. then wipe down any extra spray off the brake area but leave it on the cable and simply reinstall everything. and if lubing up the cables does not fix the sticking then id recommend to replacing both ebrake cables with new ones.

it is either just a dry cable or your posibly geting water into the brake drum and it could be freezing making the pivot points freeze.

My rear brakes are converted to discs but i will try what you suggested when it isnt freezing outside thanks for your help!

o ok... well id still spray the cables and work them just the same but if they are still sticking then remove the calipers and clean up the metal sliding areas with a wire brush and put a bit of high temp grease on them to help them freely slide on that surface.

second posible sticking point is the slide bolts could be dry as well. the bolts should have a collar that slides freely. if its rusted or coroded inside the collar it can stick just the same try to move the collar back and forth and if it still stuck firm try soaking it in some diesel fuel to get it freed up and sliding smoothly again and if it loosens up then dry it off and pack some high temp grease around the collar and slide it back and forth to get the grease pushed inside all the way.
but if its still sticking then just go buy new bolts with the collars and just replace them all and grease them before installing them just to be safe.
