Thanks a lot.

there are numbers on the head. what are those numbers?

i need to know which harness it is. is it the harness for the d15b2, the head, or the harness that came on the car?

hmm.
what does the valve cover (top of the engine) look like? this might help me narrow it down.

Does it have the honda "H" emblem on it?
Does it say "VTEC"?
Does it just say plain "HONDA"?

do you know if the wiring harness is the one that came on the car or not?

It says honda in the cover, it's red and it seems to be original paint, a friend who has a Civic told me that the ecu for this engine is P06, and also gave me the cell # of somebody who knows how to wire it to make the V-TEC work.
I think that that solves my problems, thanks for your help.

nope, that's the wrong ECU

it sounds like you have a D15B2 block, D16Y8 head, and OBD2a wiring harness.

in that case, you should use a P28 ECU and an ECU conversion harness.

This should help you with wiring VTEC.
