Default EGR valve

I have a 98 honda civic 1.6L, 4 cy, manual and it keeps throwing the EGR code check engine light. I have replaced the egr valve and reset the CEL. The code keeps coming back on after a couple days... Anyone have any idea what could be throwing this code?

thanks

They get clogged EGR passages in the intake manifold. Take off the fuel rail (with injectors still attached), remove the EGR valve then remove the plate on top of the intake manifold. Clean the carbon out.

The fuel rail is a little harder to get off than I thought....the fuel injectors were dirty and so were the ports. Still didn't get to intake manifold yet. Sprayed some carb cleaner into throttle body while idling at 2k rpms..

...will do nothing. You have to take the plate off and scrape the carbon out.

Also remove the EGR chamber. There's likely lots of carbon clogging it up.
