Engine stalls when stopped.
I have a 97 civic coupe EX just under 200K miles. Recently the engine stalls when it is in drive and I am stopped, especially if the A/C is turned on. There also is a recent loss in power at times when I accelerate. When in park, andno load, the car idles around 750 RPM which if I remember is the correct idle speed. I had a new A/C compressor installed about 5,000 miles ago, new fuel filter about 1,000 miles back, just installed a complete new distributor, spark plugs and wires about 50 miles ago and still have the same problem. I also tried adjusting the idle speed and throttle, but that doesn't help the problem any. I ran a fuel additive a couple times to try and clean up the fuel injectors but that also didn't help with the engine stall. When stopped the idle drops so low that if I don't turn off the A/C the engine will kill over. Anyone have any ideas as to what it might be? It's driving me crazy and I live in Phoenix so driving without the a/c on is not really an option.
Thanks in advance for any help.
Thanks in advance for any help.
do you have intake on the car. when i had the standard air kit for my honda the car would do the same thing. not all the time but every once in a while. i unplugged the mass airflow sensor and noticed that the rubber molding around the plug was actually covering two prongs. i pulled the rubber back, plugged it back in and away i went never having a problem again. i have heard too that is your car is manual you might wanna get the clutch looked at because sometimes they lose there pull when sitting or coming to a slow creep!
