Default exhaust leak

I let my friend borrow my civic the other day and it came back with leas torque and a lawnmower sound lol. I looked under the car and ya, I guessed it right, the exhaust pipe that leads to the muffler is broken. I was wondering if that decreases gas mileage, ho, torque, etc... its also smelling pretty bad, Can anyone give me and feedback on the issue, I'm a super noob ? Thanks, im anxious for a response.

Btw, I drive a 2002 civic coupe dx.

i had this exact same problem...dropped 500$ for a new exhaust. wish i'd tried j-b liquid weld first. not saying you should but 5$ compared to 500$ is quite tempting. even if it hadn't worked it would have been only 5 freakin dollars.

You can't fix an exhaust with jb weld, it can't take the heat. There are guys in most towns who will weld it for you rather cheap. If the pipe is rusted badly though it's just going to break somewhere else very soon.

If the exhaust broke due to age/rust, then it will just break elsewhere unless replaced. What you have linked there is a patch. Some shops may see that and possibly fail you for inspection due to it. It is just for temporary purposes. I am doubtful it will hold up.

If the mid pipe broke due to age, I am sure other exhaust components are soon to follow. probably the reason why Briceman paid so much. The shop must have replaced everything.
