Default Exhaust Sputtering / Vibrating

Hello All,

I just bought an 08 Civic Coupe Auto with 51k miles about 2 months ago. It runs perfectly. Yesterday I as standing outside the car while it was on and noticed the exhaust was much louder than it typically would be. It is kind of sputtering making a -put-put-put sound. The tail pipe is also vibrating a little. I put my ear to the engine and noticed it was making a similar sound in similar sequence kind. It had a mechanic look at it and he said they normally run "a little quiter" but not to worry. No warning lights are on and the car runs fine otherwise. The sound is not audible from inside the car. Any idea what this could be. Thanks much!

Henry

Maybe try making a small video clip to see what sound you are trying to explain?
Maybe its idleing a little high?

A "putt putt" sound could be a leak in the exhaust system. With the engine idling, block the tailpipe with a rag so pressure builds up. Leaks will then make a hissing noise. (The negative result is no hissing noise, the situation gets quieter instead, and the engine slows down some because of the pressure. Don't let an excessive amount build up.) Presumably your mechanic already did this because it's a real standard test.
