Fuel Filter - 98 Honda Civic

Please be advised for future reference that the fuel line feeding into the fuel filter on a Honda Civic does NOT require a washer that comes in kits sold by Autozone. I am not sure why they include them, other than to screw people up. The bottom combination involves steel on steel with no washer or O-ring. The top "out" line requires two washers - one on top of the Banjo nut and one underneath the Banjo nut.

I am the type of person that if a part comes in a kit, I use it, which proved to be a mistake in this case. I had to tear it apart and take the washer out.

Just trying to save people time, and possibly money. I had overtightened the hex nut fitting on the fuel line going into the filter in hopes it was just a matter of not being tight enough. This endangered the fuel line itself by warping the female fitting on the line that fits into the male portion of the fuel filter. Replacing the fuel line due to warping would probably not be a very fun job.

thanks for pointing this out, I just replaced the fuel filter on my (newly bought) 99 civic and was wondering about that extra washer...

I had the same problem. Except in the end I cross threaded the bolt into the filter and had to replace that portion of the fuel line.
