fuel gauge

ok my problem is i have a 91 hatch and when the fuel gauge reads like a 1/4 tank my car starts to buck like im empty any ides y this is or is this norm ?

pull your fuel pump out and check the filter screen(it may be dirty, missing,or not installed right) also replace your fuel filter under the hood

i replaced under the hood is pulling the fuel pump that hard i no its under the seat and 3 nuts but didnt really wana mess with it 2 much ?

When that happens, how many gallons does it take to refill the tank? If you need 11 or more gallons, the car is actually empty but the gauge shows wrong. If you only need 7 or 8 gallons it's really 1/4 full, but the pump is sucking air because like 94 said some of the fittings on the bottom of the pump are bad.

no like 8 gal fills it

justin07731 Oct 20, 2009 08:26 PM

so should i just buy a new fuell pump i get like 220 to a tank but liek i said at 1/4 tank i get on the gas ind it just bucks

94civichatchback Oct 20, 2009 08:27 PM

well if you dont wanna mess with it then just leave it and dont go below 1/4 tank, you should be fine
edit: you can pul it and inspect it , i dont think its the fuel pump, its the screen or it wasnt put in correctly
