Default Getting rid of aftermarket tach

So, I've got an aftermarket tachometer that my civic's previous owner installed and I'm hoping to take it out. I'm going to try and get a new dial cluster this weekend with a tachometer built in so I won't need the aftermarket one.

Anyway, my question involves the connection for the tach. It is routed through the outside of the main dashboard. Will I have to remove my entire dash to reroute it behind the cluster?

No, you won't have to remove the entire dash.

Also, if the person who wired the tach knew what they were doing, they would have only tapped the tach wire behind the gauge cluster, and not re-routed that wire. If they did as they should have, all you will have to do is remove the gauge cluster to access the wiring, remove the tapped wire that goes to the aftermarket tachometer (and any more wires the aftermarket tach has), and then tape up the stock tach wire so that it isn't exposed anymore where it was tapped.

Also, if the wire was only tapped and not re-routed by the previous owner, your new cluster will plug and play, no additional wiring required. The tach wire is already wired into the dash wiring harness.

I took my cluster out the other day and saw that there was only 3 connectors connected to the cluster. Even though it doesn't have a tach within it, doesn't it still have a plug for that 4th connector? I'm going to hope he just tapped into those wires and just left the original connector dangling or something.

If he didn't tap into the harness and actually routed it out, do I only take out half the screws for the dash? Or might I be able to just pull it a bit to fit the connector through?

There should be 4 harness plugs. The yellow is solely for SRS. The rest are for the other cluster functions. The plug that contains the tach signal wire should be the one on the right in this picture. It's a blue wire.

(ignore the circled objects, they are irrelevant to the topic, they are the bulbs that light up the cluster)

The second half of your post, I have absolutely no idea what you are talking about. You need to be more clear as to what you mean. "Take out half the screws for the dash" for what? I already said you don't have to remove the dash at all to get to the cluster. I am 100% sure that the previous owner didn't remove the dash to install the tach, and there should be no reason for you to remove the dash.

Does this thread in any way look like we are talking about A/C compressors? No, it doesn't.

So I'll be working on the dash cluster tomorrow and I'll be posting pics of anything out of the ordinary. Like, for instance, what I saw today when I took of the corrugated tubing for the tach wires. I saw 4 wires crimped to 4 wires coming from the dash. I'm really really hoping the previous owner didn't just snip off the connector.

"There should be 4 harness plugs. The yellow is solely for SRS. The rest are for the other cluster functions. The plug that contains the tach signal wire should be the one on the right in this picture. It's a blue wire."

Is really? the tach when it's built into the cluster is only one wire?

No, the cluster tach doesn't only use one wire. I believe it uses 3. However, the only wire needed to tap into the cluster harness for an aftermarket tach is the tach signal wire, and the others are simple wires such as ground, etc. which can easily be tapped at various places.
