did you connect it to the correct dimmer wire, if you put the dimmer wire from the tach to the car dimmer ground wire, it could have shorted out the system.

dito... i wouldnt hook up the tachs light to the dimmer switch. either wire it to the parking light wire on the switch itself or do some soldering and wire it to a dash light bulb, easiest to wire it off the back of the gauge cluster.. pull the cluster and you can see 2 black wires running from one bulb to the top small bulbs. simply tie into that wire for the tachs backlighting.
i dont remember which wire position is which so just test it with a light tester with the parking lights on.

Check whether fuse 30 under the dash is blown.

The dimmer works by controlling the ground wire from the dash lights, not the power wire. The light on an aftermarket tach can't be wired into the circuit unless it has two wires giving dedicated access to both leads of the bulb.

Fuse 30 is under the dash. I also absolutely agree with mk378.

Like addiction said, connect the tach light wire to the "hot" side of the dash light circuit. Then it will properly go on and off when you switch the lights on and off, though the dimmer will not dim it.
