guage cluster w/ no tach on MT
I have a 98 civic manual trans. My gauges stopped working so I'm looking to replace it but unsure what gauge cluster to buy. I have a manual trans but my cluster has no tach which makes me think whoever had my car before me did some jerry rigging to put an auto trans cluster in my car.
Does anyone know if any MT's came stock without tach's or if not- if whoever put the AT cluster in there would have needed to butcher up the wiring to get it to work? Thanks for any help. Just would like to know what I'm getting into before I start buying parts and tearing things apart. |
Yes there were manuals with no tach from the factory. The CX and DX for sure and maybe the LX.
Clusters are easily interchanged. As long as you stay within the same "generation" of model years, the plugs are compatible. Plug and play, and whatever features your cluster has will work. If you put an AT one in you will have a bunch of lights for the gear selector that don't do anything. |
Have you checked whether fuse 25 under the dash is blown?

I upgraded mine to an EX cluster so I could have a tach. The clusters are pretty much plug-n-play and took like 5 minutes to swap. Only tool needed is a screwdriver. You can do the same or I can sell you my old cluster if you dont mind not having the tachometer.
