GURUS needed here.... BET it will stump u!!! (clutch prob)

well guyz yet again im back. Check it out this time.
car is on and goes in all gears without movin a inch. it wont go into reverse tho and i have to step on clutch for that but even then once i let go of clutch it doesnt move.
It was time to change my clutch because my old one was slipping. I went and pulled the tranny and changed the clutch, resurfaced the flywheel and got new everything. clutch, pressure plate, and throwout bearring. Changed it out and went to start car. while car is on the car goes into all gears no prob except for reverse. no clutch goes in all but i have to step on clutch for reverse and when i let go i hear like it rubbing trying to grip but nothing. i look at the fork for the slave and it moves and has awesome pressure from stepping in clutch but y the hell does it go into gear without the clutch. everything was perfectly fine before i changed out the clutch. only reason i changed is cuz it was slipping please. guyz i need this **** running asap. its a b series hydraulic. i have a ecedy clutch and pressure plate.

left linkage on tranny. pulled tranny to garage cuz started to rain a lil. took it back to car slid it under and put new clutch and put it back on..

all i did was drop the tranny, dropped the linkage, changed clutch, got flywheel resurface and put tranny back on and now this....

i have pressure on the clutch pedal also. u can sit there and watch the slave get pushed all the way out once the clutch is stepped in.....

Please Help me anyone.

Sounds like one or both of the CV axles is not fully engaged into the transmission. In that case the speedometer will go up indicating the gears in the transmission are turning, but the car will not move. The fact that it grinds trying to go to reverse unless you push the clutch means that the clutch is working.

How would the car going in every gear without stepping in the clutch be explained? the car is like stuck disengaged enough to go in all gears cept reverse.

Just check the axles already.

If you must keep thinking about this rather than going out to the car and actually fixing it: it can go into the forward gears without clutching because there is no load on the output, thus nothing stopping the synchros from spinning up the output shaft until it engages. Reverse doesn't have a synchro.

The car was on its wheels and was about to go get gas when i realized i could stick it all gears. and the motor spins the clutch assembly spinning the tranny. Wouldnt it grind since everything is spinning if i try to stick it in gear???

So yea the flywheel was cut too much and they didnt even it out on my 2 step clutch. I had it cut to oem spec and stil the same thing. Nothing has changed.

It cant be throw out bearring because the cat is still as if the tob is clutch on the pressure plate but its not. its a brand new mc and i have it all way out to give the more pressure but its not affecting anything. The car stays disengaged. regardless if the clutch is pressed or not.

Clutch cant be put in wrong as the springs and such will hit the flywheel. everything was torqued fown to spec also. Clutch was aligned. Remember ive taken this trannsmission off like 9 times in 3 days thinking i have done something wrong but its the same thing over and over.

I have tried 2 different clutches and same thing on both. The one im using now is the exact same part number and clutch as my old one that was worn out.

Still stumped over here...........

Does the speedometer go up if you shift into 5th and let the clutch out with the engine running? (Make sure speed sensor is plugged in.)

You are so overthinking this.

There are only a few things that could make the clutch not drive the transmission when the pedal is not pressed:

Wrong clutch disk. Always check that the splines on the new disk mesh with the splines on the transmission shaft before installing. If they don't, you're going to have a bad time.

Broken springs in the disk. Should not be the case here, as it is new.

Clearance way wrong. When putting the clutch cover (pressure plate) on, there should be about 3/16 to 1/4 inch of clearance that needs to be pulled down by tightening the bolts. This is compressing the spring in the cover. If the cover goes all the way to touch the flywheel before putting the bolts in, you aren't getting any pressure on the disk. That is what happens when the friction lining on the disk is worn out, or you're using the wrong parts.

Buildup of hydraulic pressure. Again very unlikely, but easy to check by pulling the arm back (pushing piston more into the slave cylinder) to be sure that the throwout bearing is clear of the clutch cover.

But by far far far the #1 cause of disappointment after clutch replacement is not pushing the CV axles all the way back into the transmission so they lock. Either the car won't go at all, or it goes a few blocks even a few miles, then an axle comes out and it stops. If you grab the CV joint and try to pull it out of the transmission by hand, it should not move.

I understand everything ur saying. I have messed with pressure system and i have pushed the tob to make sure its not stuck its not. I have using the exact same clutch kit from exedy as the one i had in there previously. no the pp doesnt touch the flywheel and yes when i tighten the flywheel the pp fingers move in. Its like the spline that goes into the clutch isnt spinning anything in the tranny. i dont know how a tranny works so i cant say but thats what it seems like.

Does the speedometer go up?
Can you pull the CV axles out of the transmission by hand?

kiazu Jul 26, 2010 08:40 PM

clutch is at oem spec so its fine

StifflersMom Jul 26, 2010 09:14 PM

Would you listen already and go push in the damn axles?
