Default H.I.D. Lighting Questions?

New user here. Couldn't find what I needed in the search function so here goes...
Just bought 2002 Civic LX coupe. Whoever had it before installed those HID head lights. (I know very little about HID setups). On the 150 mile drive back home I noticed the HID works only on the low beams. When switching to high beams it was a very yellow beam and LESS THAN IDEAL to light up the road ahead. I ended up using low beams the entire way home which wasn't ideal for the roads I was dealing with. Why doesn't the high beam work decent? Is there any way to get the high beams to put out decent light without throwing a bunch of $$ into the system? At this point I would rather just take out the HID system and install some decent Halogen bulbs like I did in my Honda Pilot. Is it easy to revert back to the stock system and what does it entail? Like I said...I know nothing about HID systems like I have installed on this civic. Thanks.

The cheap HID conversions just have a tiny halogen bulb for high beam. As you found, it's useless. If they're just conversion bulbs installed into the stock housings, you can put halogens back in and that's what I'd recommend doing. Also you'd remove the ballasts. You may need to splice in new plugs for the bulbs if they've been cut out.
